Put Your Problem Down and Stress Away

This was an interesting lesson that happened in a class. The professor was teaching his students an invaluable life skill that could help them to better manage their problems to lead a stress-free life. Here is the lesson.

A professor began his class by holding up a glass of water. He held it up for all his students to see and asked, "How much do you think this glass weighs?"

There were numerous answers from the audience. 25 grams. 50 grams. 100 grams. 200 grams.

"I really don't know unless I weigh it," said the professor, "but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?"

"Nothing" the students said.

"Ok what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?", the professor asked.

"Your arm would begin to ache" said one of the students.

"You're right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?"

"Your arm could go numb, you might have severe muscle stress and paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!", ventured another student and all the students laughed.

"Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?", asked the professor.

"No".

"Then what caused the arm ache and the muscle stress, and how can I get rid of it?" Now, the students were puzzled.

"Put the glass down!" said one of the students.

"Exactly!" the professor beamed.

You are bound to face many challenges and problems in your life journey. If you hold onto a problem for too long, you may be completely stressed out by it and the problem may start to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything right. It is always important to learn when to put aside your problems at some time and don't think about them at all. Spend this moment to relax your mind. Go and enjoy quality time with your family. Do something you like to do. It can be something as simple as watching a movie or go out and enjoy the evening breeze. Relieve your mind off the stress. Go back to the problems again the next day but this time you are fully refreshed to tackle them effectively.
