6 Weight Loss Mistakes
- Avoid going into the strictest diet plan right from the start. A gradual incrementing diet plan is something that you are more likely to follow and succeed.
- Don't set unrealistic expectations and goals. Weight losing is a long term target. Do not expect to lose large number of pounds in a short amount of time. Set a small realistic target like losing 1 or 2 pounds each month. (Studies had shown that when following a 1200 calorie a day diet, the average weight loss is only about 4 pounds per month)
- Avoid going to the gym too frequently. It is very common to see enthusiastic first-timers hitting the gym everyday for the first few days and then see them fall out afterthat. Remember you need to be consistent in your approach and your body need adequate rest between two workout sessions.
- Don't skip meals especially breakfast. You may think skipping meals can help you to lose weight faster but more often than not you will be eating more in your subsequent meal to ease your hunger. A correct approach is to have smaller meals instead of skipping them completely.
- Avoid checking your bathroom scale everyday. You are not going to see any result at such a short day-to-day interval. You may instead be demotivated by the unchanging result and this may cause you to quit your weight loss plan. Instead check your weight once or twice a month.
- Don't deny yourself your favourite foods completely. Once in a while, you may like to indulge yourself in the food you like. Pampering yourself can motivate you to stick to your weight loss plan. We are looking at the long term target, not short-term.
